Ancient Prayers for Modern Voices: Praying with the Early Church

A Workshop by Rev. Anna Adams Petrin Lecturer in Religious Studies, Marywood University

This workshop will explore popular prayers from early Christian communities that have remained important to Christians for the past two thousand years, and which continue to help us encounter the living God today. The first part of our discussion will focus on two short prayers, the Jesus Prayer and the Veni Creator Spiritus (“Come, Holy Spirit”) that can act as companion prayers for daily life and ministry. And the second part of our discussion will focus on the “Liturgy of the Hours,” or a broader pattern for sanctifying the whole day.
